MADURAI: Declaring of Madurai airport as an international airport by Prime Minister Modi government at the Centre is showing its positive impact on students’ interest for a few particular courses offered by Madurai Kamaraj University College (MKU College) in Madurai this 2026-27 academic year.

The Union government gave its green signal for upgrading Madurai airport to international status after a cabinet meeting chaired by PM Mr.Narendra Modi on March 10th 2026 and that effect is being seen for the interest being shown in Madurai by students to join in courses that are either directly or indirectly related to airport.

“We are surprised that the announcement by PM Mr.Modi that Madurai declaring our Madurai as an international airport is having its impact on our college because we could see more students coming to know to enquire with interest about our tourism and hotel management courses since these two courses are directly connected to aviation sector,” Dr.B.George, Principal in-charge, MKU College, has said when ‘Lotus Times’ media visited the campus today on May 15h 2026 to get specific details about the courses offered by the college and the admission trends expected this year at MKU College.

The MKU College offers B.Sc in Hotel Management and Catering Sciences and B.Sc in Tourism and Hospitality Mgmt besides M.T.T.M. (Tourism and Travel Mgt), and this college is one of the premier qualified manpower supplier campuses in Madurai for travel, tourism, hotel management and catering sectors.
