FICCI awards for higher education presented in Chennai; IIT & HITS get recognition for their tech collaboration efforts in AI, quantum computing etc

CHENNAI: Industry collaboration awards were presented by FICCI to three institutions that have made remarkable contribution for excellence in higher education through their industry collaboration iniatives for students’ career opportunities.

The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI)’s Tamil Nadu State Council had presented the awards at its third edition of Tamil Nadu Higher Education Summit 2026 which was hosted in Chennai on May 7th 2026 with focus on an important theme for current generation of youngsters- ‘Empowering Future Workforce: AI, AVGC & Industry 4.0 in Academia’.

AWARDS AND RECIPIENTS:

FICCI Industry Collaboration Award for excellence in global aviation training standards was presented to Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science & Orient Flights Private Limited for bringing internationally benchmarked flight simulation training to India and for fostering high standards of aviation education, and this award was received by Mr.Abel Mathew Prasad, vice-president, Orient Lights Private Limited., according to a press release here yesterday.

The award from FICCI for emerging technologies and innovation was presented to Indian Institute of Technology Madras for its pioneering efforts through new technology initiatives that will help entrepreneurial growth and this award was received by Prof.Prabha Mandayam of IIT Madras for AR,VR and MR collaboration steps while the FICCI award for excellence in Quantum Computing and Advanced Technologies was given to IIT Madras & IBM and this award was received by Dr.Dhinakaran Vinayagamurthy, Manager-Qiskit India Team and IBM quantum member of IIT Madras, the press release added.

Dr.Sutapa Choudhury, British Deputy High Commissioner (Designate) in Chennai was the chief guest for inaugural session of FICCI Tamil Nadu State Council-Tamil Nadu Education Summit 2026 on May 7th 2026 and the valedictory session was attended by chief guest Dr.Ganesanathan Geathiswaran, Deputy High Commissioner, Sri Lanka Deputy High Commisison-Chennai.

Among those who spoke at the summit include Dr.GSK Velu, Chairman, FICCI TN State Council and CMD of Trivitron Healthcare & Neuberg Diagnostics Group, Dr.Ashok G.Verghese, co-chairman, FICCI TN State Council and Pro-Chancellor of Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science (HITS) and Mr.Bhupesh Nagarajan, co-chairman of FICCI TN State Council and CMD of Indira Group of Companies.
