Ortho & spine team press meet at Meenakshi Mission Hospital in Madurai on April 16th 2026.
MADURAI: A 60-year-old woman who came with a very serious condition due to her spine pain to Meenakshi Mission Hospital and Research Centre (MMHRC) in Madurai had a successful repair surgery and she is back’ to normal thanks to its orthopedic spine team who had corrected a failed spine surgery and put her life back to normal.
This patient had undergone a challenging spine condition that required a complex revision surgery in our hospital because she underwent a spine surgery for L5-SI disectomy in another hospital elsewhere five years ago, Dr.R.Vetri Nallathambi, spine surgeon at MMHRC in Madurai, told reporters at a press meet in Madurai today-April 16th 2026.
Explaining about the surgical procedure done to this 60-year-old woman patient, the ortho experts team told media persons that the medical team had removed the fluid-filled sac from the spine and thereby corrected the failed previous surgery that she underwent in another hospital five year ago.
“Our diagnostic tests by ortho team at MMHRC had shown that the woman had severe spine complications. There was a tear that caused fluid leakage. We did a repair surgery in our hospital for the tear we found in her spinal covering. Our surgeons also performed a special procedure ‘Limberg Flap’ for the spine safety of this patient in future,” the MMHRC ortho spine team told reporters in Madurai while explaining about how the woman is back to her normal activities daily.
Dr.R.Vetri Nallathambi, spine surgeon, Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology at MMHRC, has said that the disc degeneration was corrected after a through MRI scan study done by ortho experts and this woman patient was suffering from severe back pain and he added that it was a challenging spine surgery done in MMHRC to correct the failed previous surgery done elsewhere.
Dr.V.Sathya Narayana, Head of Department and senior consultant, Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology at MMHRC, Dr.U.T.Vassan, senior ortho consultant, Dr.Guna Pradeep, ortho consultant and Dr.B.Kannan, Medical Administrator, Meenakshi Mission Hospital and Research Centre-Madurai, were among those who had highlighted the surgery success that removed a large spinal fluid-filled sac and corrected the failed surgery for this woman patient who is now normal.
“Failed spine surgeries can be corrected due to the advanced facilities available in Meenakshi Mission Hospital in Madurai. We can do proper healing after correcting the spine complication once again,” the ortho team told reporters at press meet in Madurai on April 16th 2026 while explaining about the surgery along with doctors team including Dr.P.Suresh Kumar who is a plastic surgeon at MMHRC.
