MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry has today profusely thanked Prime Minister Mr.Narendra Modi and Union Civil Aviation Minister Mr.K.Rammohan Naidu for upgrading Madurai airport as an international airport.
In a press statement here on March 10th 2026, TN Chamber president Dr.N.Jegatheesan has thanked the union government on behalf of trade and industry in southern Tamil Nadu by saying that declaring Madurai as international airport will give a spurt to the growth of southern districts.
“Last year myself and our chamber secretary Mr.S.Sridhar have met the Union Civil Aviation Minister in New Delhi and at that time we were told that approvals from concerned Ministries were being obtained to declare Madurai as an international airport. Today’s announcement will enhance the facilities in our airport,” TN Chamber president Dr.N.Jegatheesan has said.
The TN Chamber has also urged that the airport runway extension be completed at the earliest by making it 12,000 ft and also construct a runway underpass on the existing four-lane road located to the east of the current runway thereby allowing vehicles to pass beneath.
