
MADURAI: Attention towards boosting up the nutrition levels and health of adolescent girls got a major push in Madurai today as the Department of Home Science of Sri Meenakshi Government Arts College for Women (Autonomous) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with voluntary organization ‘Voice Trust’ here on September 19th 2025.
This MoU was signed as a part of the national nutrition month celebrations being conducted by the college to commemorate ‘Rashtriya Poshan Maah-September 2025’ which is aimed at ensuring adolescent health, general health and nutrition particularly among girls.
Dr.S.Vanathi, Principal, Sri Meenakshi Government Arts College for Women (A) and Mr.T.Murugesan, Managing Trustee, Voice Trust-Madurai, have signed the MoU in the presence of Dr.J.B.Sharmila, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Home Science, Dr.N.Shanthi, Associate Professor, Department of Home Science and others.
Dr.M.Hemalatha, consultant gynaecologist and Director of Hema Medical Centre in Madurai, was invited as resource person to address the college students on the topic ‘adolescent health and nutrition- insights from a medical expert’.
A general health camp was also conducted for the students of Sri Meenakshi Government Arts College for Women in Madurai today with focus on ECG, blood sugar, bone density, nutrition level etc, according to a press release from Voice Trust.
“The MoU will give hands-on exposure to students of this college on community projects in nutrition, health, environment and sustainable development through internships and fieldwork. Social skills will be enhanced for students through extension activities,” the press release from Madurai-based NGO ‘Voice Trust’ has added.
