MADURAI: A petition was submitted requesting for improvement of water and sanitation facilities in Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) campus here since students and staff are facing severe hardships due to lack of adequate toilets and water.

The petition was submitted at ‘Ungaludan Stalin’ programme camp held at Vadapalanji in Tirupparankundram block, near the university, on July 29th 2025 by former member of MKU Academic Council and Senate Dr.P.Rajamanickam who had highlighted the poor sanitation conditions in the varsity campus presently.

“This petition was submitted to the authorities based on the feedback report collected at a meeting convened by Save MKU Coalition. We have mentioned about the poor water and sanitation condition in university departments, classrooms and in the campus as a whole. Staff and students (especially women) move from department to department in search of water and toilets,” Dr.P.Rajamanickam has said in the petition.

He pointed out that many RO machines in MKU campus are under repair and students are struggling for drinking water. “We demanded for immediate improvement and asked the local authorities to follow up our petition. A copy of our petition was sent to the varsity Registrar and Higher Education Secretary also,” he said today- July 30th 2025.
