MADURAI: The Madurai Kamaraj University Faculty Association (MUFA) has sent a letter to the Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister requesting him to immediately replace the incumbent Registrar in-charge of MKU Prof.M.Ramakrishnan because the teaching staff are feeling threatened when he is saying that the Finance Minister is his relative.

“MUFA is expressing its deep concern regarding the conduct and functioning of the current Registrar. We are particularly alarmed and feel threatened by repeated statement of Registrar in-charge saying that the Finance Minister is my relative and hence no authority can take action against me. Such remarks not only reflect a disregard for institutional hierarchy but also erode the impartiality that our university must uphold,” a jointly signed letter sent to the government which was released to the media in Madurai by MUFA president Dr.T.Arokiadoss, general secretary Dr.C.Muniyandi and treasurer Dr.V.Shanmugaiah has said today- June 27th 2025.

An appeal cum complaint letter was sent by MUFA to the Commissioner of Collegiate Education of Government of Tamil Nadu Mrs.E.Sundravalli IAS who is also the Syndicate Committee convener right now by saying that “these continued actions have significantly damaged the university’s image and ethical functioning of MKU administration.”

At the executive council meeting held virtually on June 17th 2025 from Madurai, the MUFA has decided to request the Government of Tamil Nadu to replace the incumbent Registrar in-charge of MKU Prof.M.Ramakrishnan, and accordingly sent to a letter to the Higher Education Department’s top officials to appoint a senior faculty member with proven administrative capabilities, personal integrity and leadership qualities to restore dignity and accountability to the position of university Registrar.

The MUFA statement which was signed on June 18th 2025 after its EC meeting has also stated that the present Registrar has consistently demonstrated a lack of administration efficiency and professional integrity.

“The present Registrar’s actions have led to an atmosphere of distrust and hostility among the faculty members and administrative staff of MKU. We are threatened when he says that Finance Minister is my relative. So, we are seeking urgent attention from the Tamil Nadu State Government and Mrs.E.Sundaravalli IAS to enhance our university’s governance and academic excellence by replacing the present Registrar in-charge,” the MUFA letter has said and a copy of that was sent to MKU Syndicate Committee member Prof.Mayilvaganan and other Syndicate members of the university.
