MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu Handball Association has sought the helping hand of Tamil Nadu Sports Minister Mr.Udhayanithi Stalin to resolve the issues that are worrying handball players’ job quota chances in the State because of some wrong decisions taken by the Sports Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) which is badly affecting handball payers from Tamil Nadu.
“Indian Olympic Association has recognized Handball Federation of India and this name is in the list provided by IOA. The organization called Handball Association of India which was removed by the Union Sports Ministry and IOA has been recognized by the Tamil Nadu’s Sports Development Authority….So, it is a confusion among the players. We appeal that the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu should give the official recognition to the association that is recognized by the Union Sports Ministry and Indian Olympic Association. The SDAT has acted unilaterally to provide opportunities to handball payers in the association called Tamil Nadu Handball Association (Regd No.291/2003) without any reason and the handball coaches are working in favour of Tamil Nadu Handball Association of India. SDAT has given wrong information to RTI,” Dr.N.Rajasekar, general secretary, Tamil Nadu Handball Association (Reg No.24/2023), has said today- on May 22nd 2025, while speaking as a request on behalf of handball players in Tamil Nadu.
He said that if the SDAT from Tamil Nadu grants its recognition, then it should be given to any association that is recognized by the Union Sports Ministry and the IOA.
“It has also announced that it has recognized the organization called Tamil Nadu Handball Association (Reg No.291/2003) as recognized under Handball Association of India, which was removed in 2023. There is now a confusion in employment opportunities for players. Tamil Nadu Handball Association (Reg No.24/ 2023) is the only affiliated association in Tamil Nadu under Handball Federation of India. The confusion created by SDAT for handball association is affecting the players also in government examinations sports quota. SDAT decision is now unlawful and it is spoiling the handball players’ chances for police selection etc. Our request to the Tamil Nadu Sports Minister is to intervene and give instructions to SDAT and we also urge the top police authorities in Tamil Nadu to take action against SDAT,” Dr.N.Rajasekar, general secretary, Tamil Nadu Handball Association (Reg No.24/2023), has appealed today- May 22nd 2025.
