MADURAI: At the very recent launch of ‘Vande Bharat’ train from Madurai to Bengaluru by Prime Minister Mr.Narendra Modi, there was an important point of public attention at the Madurai railway station on August 31st 2024.
A 101-yrs-aged freedom fighter was present at the inaugural of Vande Bharat express train at Madurai while Prime Minister Mr.Modi flagged off the Madurai-Bengaluru Cantonment through video-conferencing, in a function in which Union Minister of State for Railways Mr.V.Somanna and Madurai MP Mr.Su.Venkatesan had participated, according to a press release received from the Southern Railway’s Madurai Division here today- on September 2nd 2024.
The 101-yrs-aged freedom fighter’s name is Shri.Alagam Perumal, from Peraiyur area in Madurai district in Tamil Nadu, and he took part in the Vande Bharat express train launch event at Madurai railway station on August 31st 2024. This freedom fighter was born in the year 1924 at Periayur Taluk in Madurai district- T.Krishnapuram village.
Freedom fighter Shri.Alagam Perumal took part in the 1942 Quit India movement against the British rule, in front of Madurai railway station in the year 1942, and he was imprisoned for six months in a jail in Bellary district in Karnataka, at that time by the British.
He is a great advocate of Tamil language and ancient Tamil language greatness, he could tell all the 1,330 Thirukkural verses in just one hour and 40 minutes and hence this ripe aged person was honoured, the railway press release in Madurai on September 2nd 2024 has informed. He also has many other contributions to Tamil language.
