THANJAVUR: The SASTRA Deemed University had undergone a remarkable transformation from a simple beginning four decades ago and it has a great role to play in the years to come as India embarks on various development targets, Mr.P.R.Venketrama Raja, Chairman, Ramco Group of Companies, has said yesterday.

“This university has a forward thinking academic environment. From a simple beginning, this institution had seen a remarkable transformation with emphasis on research and multi-disciplinary approach. India has a significant potential and fresh graduates become important in India’s development landscape,” he said while delivering the convocation address at the 38th convocation of SASTRA University in Thanjavur on August 31st 2024.

Exhorting the young graduates to embrace the future with confidence, the Ramco Group Chairman had stressed that continuous learning and inter-disciplinary approach are crucial in today’s context and hence students must focus on learning across multiple disciplines.

40 YEARS COMPLETED AS INSTITUTION:

Prof.S.Vaidhyasubramaniam, Vice-Chancellor, who presented the 2023-24 annual report had informed that SASTRA completes 40 years as an institution and 23 years as a university this academic year.

“Our university has been ranked 28th in the university, 38th in engineering, 14th in Law and 47th in the overall categories in the NIRF rankings 2024. SASTRA’s ABCDE Innovation Centre has been selected by the Ministry of Heavy Industries to establish an accelerator at a total cost of Rs.40.80 crores. Through this project, SASTRA is developing nine indigenous technologies along with industry partners apart from setting up training facilities in the areas of robotics, drones, AR/VR, industrial internet of things, semiconductor water characterisation, electronics manufacturing and 3D printing,” the Vice-Chancellor said in his annual report.

Prof.R.Sethuraman, Chancellor of SASTRA University, had administered pledge to the graduates who received their degrees in various disciplines.
