MADURAI: The staff and pensioners of Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) in Madurai have not received their monthly salary and pension for the month of December 2023 and January 2024.
The ‘Lotus Times’ English media website here has received appeals from the MKU staff today – on February 2nd 2024- informing that the university is yet to disburse salary and pension and the date today is February 2nd 2024.
When contacted, the MKU sources said that the university Registrar and a team is in Chennai today to meet the Higher Education Minister and Finance Department Government officials to get funding support and put before them the plight of MKU staff and pensioners.
“The university needs Rs.4.7 crores to pay the pension and family pension alone every month, and all our hopes are on the Tamil Nadu government only to run this university,” a very senior university official said today and added that if the salary requirement very month is taken into account, the needed fund will be higher.
