5,000 Corona warriors in Madurai get grocery kits

MADURAI: Coming to the aid of sanitary workers in Madurai who are on the field fighting Coronavirus, the Tamil Nadu government, Madurai district administration and Corporation have taken steps to provide free grocery kits to nearly 5,000 sanitary workers in the city.

Each kit is having 24 grocery items and it costs Rs.670 in the market. The grocery kit, being given to sanitary workers here, contains five kilos of deluxe ponni rice, dhal varieties, edible oil, sambar powder, malli, tea powder, sukku, soaps etc. 

Co-operation Minister Mr.Sellur K.Raju had today – 23rd April 2020- started distributing the free grocery kits in Madurai West Assembly constituency in which 823 sanitary workers are engaged in cleaning and sanitization works. Madurai District Collector Dr.T.G.Vinay, Corporation Commissioner Mr.S.Visakan and corporation officials- Mr.Palanisamy, Mr.Sekar, Mr.Arogiya Xavier and Mr.Chithravel, were among those present. 

“We are providing quality groceries to our sanitary workers who are toiling on the field to prevent coronavirus spread. Following the Chief Minister’s instructions, the district administration and corporation authorities are taking care of their essential needs,” Minister Sellur K.Raju has said after distributing the groceries today.

He also informed that the Tamil Nadu government is taking care of widows, daily wage workers, destitute, oldaged and the poor by giving essential commodities and food packets. The Minister has urged the people to follow social distancing and wear face masks.
