MADURAI: Police and staff at the Madurai District Collectorate here had a tough time today morning – 24th April 2020- as hundreds of people thronged the collector’s office to obtain vehicle pass.
The Madurai City Police had announced that strict monitoring will be done from today to prevent unnecessary use of vehicles and that two-wheelers in particular will be seized by police besides imposing of fine.
Even though Section 144 is in force as a part of Coronavirus control measures, the demand for vehicle pass is high in Madurai city. Anxious moments prevailed in the Collectorate premises as the all important social distancing has gone for a toss in the rush to get a pass. The district administration, Corporation and city police are taking steps to regulate / prohibit unnecessary use of vehicles during the current lockdown period. QR code to monitor vehicles with pass was also taken into account by the authorities.

Since the time given to obtain vehicle pass (only for urgent / emergency use) was short, the people thronged Madurai District Collector’s office today. The crowd was so huge that the authorities gave up the QR code idea for now and followed the old system of giving vehicle pass.
