
MADURAI: The Chairman and Managing Director of Vadamalayan Hospitals Dr.V.Pugalagiri had today thanked the people of Madurai and all southern districts of Tamil Nadu for reposing their confidence on the treatment being provided by this hospital here in the last 7 decades.
“This is a long journey for our hospital which was started as a small nursing home in the year 1957 by my father late Dr.Vadamalayan and this hospital was inaugurated by former Chief Minister K.Kamaraj on September 15th 1957. The Vadamalayan Hospital today had become a top multi-speciality super specaility tertiary care hospital in Madurai thanks to my father’s vision to provide health care in those days to the needy people with his clear focus on evidence-based medicine. Now, we had completed seven decades and we are happy to celebrate our 70th year,” Dr.V.Pugalagiri told reporters at a thanks-giving press meet in Madurai today-September 10th 2026 and he assured that family personal touch will always be maintained like those of nursing home period seven decades back.
CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY ACTIVITIES:
Dr.V.Pugalagiri (CMD) and Mrs.Chandra Pugalagiri (JMD of Vadamalayan Hospitals) had given an outlook of their further expansion plans in Madurai region and the proposed healthcare activities that will be done to mark the 70th year of Vadamalayan Hospitals.
“My father Dr.Vadamalayan had passed away in the year 1972 when I was about 18 years age…But, our Vadamalayan Nursing Home of those days in 60s and 70s was the first seed in this region for evolving into a multi-speciality hospital in Madurai from being a nursing home. We took lot of efforts at that time from trauma care to take care of road accidents to constructing of a special block for pregnant women at Melakkal PHC to many life-saving stories that happened in our hospital in last few years till now. I will follow my father’s vision always,” Dr.Pugalagiri Vadamalayan has said at the press meet of Vadamalayan Hospital’s 70th year anniversary in Madurai on September 10th 2026 while briefing about Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities being implemented now.
Mrs.Chandra Pugalagiri, Joint Managing Director (JMD) of Vadamalayan Hospitals, told the media that special camps will be conducted during the next one year for the benefit of rural people in Madurai and Dindigul region and Vadamalayan Hospitals will soon get “ROBOTIC” machines treatment method… in a couple of months as per advanced technology systems that are available elsewhere.
“For the 70 years celebration of our hospital, we can announce today that our Vadamalayan Hospital will open two sub-centres in Madurai outskirts as secondary care facility for patients….Our CSR activities will be focused on preventive healthcare programs like cervical / breast cancer screening camps for women in Madurai-Dindigul areas, and we will use our well-quipped cancer department to help people at concessional rate. We are always focused on CSR to do service through Corporate Social Responsibility support through our philanthropy,” Dr.Pugalagiri Vadamalayan has said in Madurai press meet today-September 10th 2026- which was held to commemorate the successful 70 years of Vadamalayan Hospital from Madurai.
