MADURAI: There seems to be some unrest in the campus of well-known Ayya Nadar Janaki Ammal College (ANJA College) in Sivakasi as its non-teaching staff have announced massive protests demanding justice from college management and attention of Directorate of Collegiate Education of Government of Tamil Nadu for alleged violation of government rules pertaining to employees and students.
The ANJAC Unit of Tamil Nadu Association of Non-Teaching Staff of Aided Colleges (TANTSAC) in the college at Sivakasi in Virudhunagar district had announced massive protests for justice as the Regional Joint Directorate of Collegiate Education here had failed to solve the hardships being faced by non-teaching employees of ANJA College due to violation of G.O.s by college management.
“Our issues include standard working hours, working days, Saturday leaves, pending bonus increments, earned leave, filling of positions on compassionate grounds and SPF surrender etc. This college management is right now violating the government rules and Joint Director of Collegiate Education did not take steps despite our several appeals. So, we are going for protests in front of our college asking for justice,” Mr.M.Kandasamy, secretary, TANTSAC-ANJAC Unit, has said while sending the list of demands to ‘Lotus Times’ media in Madurai on August 29th 2026.
The Association of Non-Teaching Staff of Aided Colleges of ANJA College in Sivakasi had already submitted a long list to the college secretary about certain irregularities and violations that are taking place in the college campus, according to the comprehensive representation letter which highlighted about non-settlement of statutory terminal benefits, student fees irregularities and pending terminal dues as on date.
AGITATIONS TO START SOON:
“Despite a formal conciliation agreement signed on February 25th 2025 at Malli police station between the college administration (Principal and Superintendent) and association representatives in the presence of police inspector, the college management has failed to honour statutory obligations. So, TANTSAC has warned of initiating gate-picketing, dharnas and hunger strikes if the pending issues are not resolved immediately,” Mr.M.Kandasamy, secretary, TANTSAC-ANJA College Branch, has said while speaking to ‘Lotus Times’ English news website over phone yesterday and added that the issue was taken to the attention of police and Virudhunagar district collector besides the Regional Joint Director of Colelgiate Education of Madurai Region.
The non-teaching staff association of ANJA College in Sivakasi had sent a full list of their grievances with individuals names and it also urged that the college must strictly collect only government stipulated fees from students who are admitted in government-aided courses, implementation of 5-day week, equitable non-teaching leave, stop coercing the aided staff by self-financing section, dignity of labour, working hours regularization, gratuity for self-financing staff, RTI Act compliance and end to victimization of union staff.
