MADURAI: A skill oriented workshop on ‘Protein Profiling’ was conducted by the Department of Microbiology of American College in Madurai in collaboration with Lab-At-Door Developing Education and Research (LADDER) experts to provide the students hands-on exposure to contemporary techniques in protein profiling and molecular biology.
Students from 10 colleges in Tamil Nadu had attended this two-day workshop which was aimed to provide experiential and practical learning in protein analysis diagnostic tests to microbiology students, according to a press release received from the college on August 28th 2026 and it said that the focus was on ‘Protein Profiling: From SDS-PAGE to Western Blot’.
Dr.J.Paul Jayakar, Principal and Secretary of The American College in Madurai, had inaugurated the workshop and said that protein profiling is not merely a lab technique but a pathway to orient the students towards research and scientific thinking.
LAUDS THE LADDER:
The American College Principal had also lauded the name ‘LADDER’ because it stands as a metaphor for skill development, to climb step by step to a higher level by getting right skill training through these workshops, the press release said.
Dr.M.Ganesan, founder of LADDER and a well-known microbiology expert who has a vast experience in the field of medical diagnostics, was the chief guest and he spoke on how to equip laboratory skills with practical learning applications via protein analysis exsposure beginning with SDS-PAGE and progressing towards Western Blotting method.
Dr.M.Andrew Pradeep, Head, Department of Microbiology, Dr.K.Kannan, organising secretary of the workshop and workshop coordinator Mrs.Shirly Angeline were among those who spoke at the inaugural session yesterday by emphasizing the importance of skill-based education, experiential learning, research-oriented training and acquiring competencies along with academic curriculum.
