MADURAI: A few departments in the huge Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) are facing dire straits because of lack of intercom phone facility, proper toilets and photostat copies facilities.

Teaching staff and students have appealed to Vice-Chancellor Prof.Dr.M.Krishnan and varsity authorities to look into this issue and take immediate steps.

MKU sources told ‘Lotustimes’ news website today- 29th January 2020- that the absence of telephone intercom facility in some departments is creating physical hardships to staff and students. Departments like the History Department etc are waiting for good toilets, intercom connection and a photostat copy machine which is important for official and academic purposes.

“We are unable to get information from the telephone exchange or from our university officials since the intercom is not functioning. We have to walk a long distance to get information or contact anyone….Since there is no xerox machine in our department, photocopies could not be taken. It is affecting our work and students in a big way. Now we are going out to take xerox copies,” a source in MKU History Department has said today.

Same is the case with toilets in university departments where repairs were not done and hence became useless. “We are sure our VC will take steps for these basic facilities to students and staff,” a department staff member said today while explaining their plight.
