Madurai Railway Junction will have 37 lifts, 27 escalators and 3 multi-level parking facilities; DRM signals development plans in progress at Madurai Division’s 17 Rly stations (Part-1)

MADURAI: The 80th Independence Day celebrations of India which was held at Red Field Ground in Railway Colony in Madurai today-August 15th 2026- had unfolded the railway’s plans for Madurai Railway Division in Tamil Nadu when the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Mr.Om Prakash Meena had hoisted the national flag and spoke about the railway projects and plans that are on track for railway amenities in Madurai Division.

“In Madurai Division, 17 railway stations are being upgraded under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme with works worth Rs.293 crores sanctioned. The Madurai Railway Junction is undergoing major redevelopment at an estimated cost of Rs.413 crores and works are progressing steadily. This project for Madurai Railway station features dual-terminal G+3 buildings, subway connectivity to Periyar bus stand, a 42-metre-wide air concourse, skywalks, 37 lifts, 27 escalators and three multi-level parking facilities. The multi-level two-wheeler parking on East side and multi-level car parking at the west side of our railway station in Madurai have already been commissioned,” the Madurai DRM Mr.Om Prakash Meena had informed while speaking about the Madurai Railway Division’s plans in progress now.

The DRM has said that the overall earnings of Madurai Railway Division during the first four months of current fiscal year is Rs.490 crores and it is 8.28 per cent higher than the corresponding period of last year while the passenger earnings during this period rose to Rs.328.57 crores by exceeding the last year earnings by 13.34 per cent.

Mr.Om Prakash Meena also highlighted the railway station redevelopment works that are now under progress at Rameswaram etc.

Among the senior railway officials who were present at 80th I-Day celebration event in Madurai today include Additional Divisional Railway Manager Mr.V.Prasanna and Senior Divisional Personnel Officer Mr.T.Sankaran along with Mr.A.K.Prit, Divisional Security Commissioner-RPF and other railway branch officers in Madurai besides students from Railway Higher Secondary School in Madurai and representatives of Southern Railway Women’s Welfare Organization who are also associated for the welfare of public and railway staff families etc.
