MADURAI: The admissions trend analysis which was done based on first round engineering admission counselling in Tamil Nadu for 2026 by leading career consultant and analyst Mr.Jayaprakash Gandhi has indicated a clear list of engineering colleges that are most preferred by students and the campuses that stood at the top of the list in TNEA 2026 academic general counselling at the end of the first round of counselling.

Based on his analysis report, the most preferred 11 government and government-aided institutions are College of Engineering Guindy (CEG) in Chennai, Madras Institute of Technology (MIT Chennai), Coimbatore Institute of Technology (CIT-Coimbatore), CECRI in Chennai, PSG College of Technology in Coimbatore, Government College of Technology in Coimbatore, Thiagarajar College of Engineering in Madurai, Anna University Regional Campus in Coimbatore, Government College of Engineering in Salem, Alagappa Chettiar Government College of Engineering in Karaikudi and A.C.Tech Campus in Anna University-Chennai.

CHENNAI REGION COLLEGES:

According to Mr.JP Gandhi analysis, the most preferred 11 self-financing engineering institutions in Chennai region (based on seats filled in first round counselling) are CIT, Rajalakshmi Engineering College, Loyola-ICAM College of Engineering and Technology, Rajalakshmi Institute of Technology (RIT), Saveetha Engineering College, Easwari Engineering College, RMK Engineering College, Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering, Rajalakshmi Engineering College’s off-campus, St.Joseph’s College of Engineering and Sri Sairam Engineering College.

The first round TNEA 2026 admissions analysis report by Mr.Jayaprakash Gandhi which was released to the media on August 3rd 2026 had given the list of most preferred self-financing engineering colleges in Coimbatore, Trichy and Madurai regions.

This list includes PSG Institute of Technology and Applied Research (PSG iTech Coimbatore), Sri Eshwar College of Engineering, Kumaraguru College of Technology, KPR Institute of Engineering and Technology, Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology, Karpagam College of Engineering, Kalaignar Karunanidhi Institute of Technology (KIT), Bannari Amman Institute of Technology at Sathyamangalam, Kongu Engineering College in Erode, Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College and Dr.Mahalingam College of Engineering & Technology in Pollachi.

The top self-financing engineering colleges which were chosen by the students in Trichy and Madurai regions are National Engineering College at Kovilpatti, Velammal College of Engineering and Technology in Madurai, MEPCO Schlenk Engineering College at Sivakasi, VSB Engineering College in Karur and PSNA College of Engineering and Technology at Dindigul, according to the admissions trend analysis report by top career consultant and analyst Mr.Jayaprakash Gandhi who gave the TNEA 2026 first round admissions analysis report yesterday- August 3rd 2026.

“Seats are almost filled in these top colleges in the first round of counselling itself. There are totally 422 colleges that are participating in Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions 2026 counselling with a total of 1,81,436 seats available in academic counselling. CSE and ECE are the most preferred branches by students, and admissions counselling process for second and third rounds is underway in the State,” the analysis report said.
