From nothing, you can become a king in life: TCE Founder’s Day event in Madurai tells real success stories of zero to hero to inspire students (Part-1)

MADURAI: The Founder’s Day celebration event at Thiagarajar College of Engineering (TCE) in Madurai today-July 29th 2026- had given a turning point message to young generation of students by giving them inspiration from the success stories of great personalities in India and the world.

Rich tributes were paid to TCE founder Kalaithanthai Karumuttu Thiagarajan Chettiar (1893-1974) in the college campus here today morning by Mr.D.R.Kaarthikeyan, former Director of CBI along with Mr.J.Premanand, Commissioner of Income Tax (Exemptions)-Chennai in the presence of Mr.K.Hari Thiagarajan, Chairman and Correspondent of TCE and college Principal Dr.L.Ashok Kumar along with faculty, staff, students, parents and Mrs.Uma Kannan and Mr.Balamurugan, president of TCE Alumni Association.

“Anyone can achieve anything in life. Explore the lives of achievers who had nothing but became something in the world. The TCE founder Kalaithanthai Karumuttu Thiagarajan Chettiar is a role model because from nothing he became a King and let us pay our tributes to him today for creating an iconic institution called TCE in Madurai several decades back and his vision is still being followed by the present third generation of his family,” Mr.D.R.Kaarthikeyan IPS (Retd) who is also a former Director General of NHRC and former Director General General of CRPF. has said while addressing the students of TCE at Founder’s Day function in the campus here today.

PARENTS ARE LIVING GODS:

Emphasizing that parents should be treated as role models and living Gods always, the 87-years-old former CBI Director told the present generation students to take a few role models like Ratan Tata, Satya Nadella, Sundar Pitchai, Nandan Nilekani, Steve Jobs, Elan Musk, A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, Indra Nooyi, Ajim Premji and others as success icons because these great personalities including Karumuttu Thiagarajan Chettiar who founded several great educational institutions from Madurai had come from a humble background and ordinary families.

“Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam came from a fisherman family in Rameswaram and he became the President of India. So, you have no excuse not to be the best. You are all fortunate students who could study in TCE campus in Madurai. Anybody can become anything if they have focus, hard work and determination. Take success stories as your role models,” Mr.D.R.Kaarthikeyan IPS (retd) had exhorted the students at TCE Founder’s Day celebration in Madurai today-July 29th 2026.

He also advised the student community to follow spiritual pathway always from whichever religion it may be and to live a purposeful life, and to follow meditation with yoga daily.

“TCE is a college of eminence in India where there is no capitation fee and it is a role model in our country. Let us pay our tributes, homage and gratitude to that great founder who must be taken as an inspiring role model by the present generation because he grew from an ordinary street to the level of textile King from Tamil Nadu,” the former Director of CBI had stressed.

Scholarships were distributed to TCE students today and the college also launched TCE Vision 2035 document to strengthen from curriculum to students’ career.

TCE Chairman and Correspondent Mr.K.Hari Thiagarajan had thanked the alumni for their generous funding support to TCE Alumni Charitable Trust to help deserving students to pursue their education ambition.
