MADURAI: The Graduation Day ceremony of American College in Madurai today had given a brief orientation to refresh the fresh graduates with some understanding about the reality in present job market so that they can embark on their career path with confidence.
Mr.P.Ponniah IAS, Commissioner of Collegiate Education-Government of Tamil Nadu, who was the chief guest had given a pep talk to motivate the passing out batch at the Graduation Day held in college campus here today-July 25th 2026.
“I am a proud alumni of this great college from zoology department. From my experience, I want to tell you that opportunities will come to those who prepare and aim high. The very first thought of writing competitive exams had come to me from this college campus only because in those days I used to attend pep talks in this same campus, understand GK and current affairs etc. So, you should just observe the changing job market and adapt yourself to what is required by adopting a success path. That is enough to lay the foundation for your career success,” Mr.P.Ponniah has said while delivering the Graduation Day address at American College in Madurai today.
He urged the graduands to visit career portals and be informed about the good career chances in government and private sector, develop problem solving ability and be acquainted with current trends like Artificial Intelligence, digital technology and climate challenges etc.
“It is said that the employability rate of our graduates is only 55 per cent in India and this is said by HR people. So, if you just fine tune yourself beyond your degree by acquiring skills to face challenges, then all success is yours,” Mr.P.Ponniah IAS had motivated the passing out students.

American College Principal Dr.J.Paul Jayakar had exhorted the fresh graduates to live with a purpose in life in whatever be the situation.
“Career success may bring recognition and wealth for you. At the same time, if you have a dedicated purpose, it will enrich not only your life but also the lives of others. Today, we have our own alumnus Mr.P.Ponniah IAS as chief guest and he did his B.Sc Zoology, M.Sc Zoology and M.Phil in this college in the 80s. So, you should also one day come to this college as chief guest and that must be your high aim,” the Principal has said.
Rt.Rev.Dr.D.Jeyasingh Prince Prabhakaran, Bishop and American College Governing Council had rendered the words to seek blessings of the God.
Degree certificates were presented to 2,875 graduates of various departments at the Graduation Day ceremony held in American College today and they include 2,207 undergraduate and 668 postgraduate candidates.
