MADURAI: The prestigious Lady Doak College in Madurai had a ‘Triune celebration’ in the campus today-July 23rd 2026- on the occasion of its 78th college birthday, Founder’s Day and Student Cabinet inauguration.
Mr.P.Ponniah IAS, Commissioner of Collegiate Education-Government of Tamil Nadu, who was the chief guest had hailed the institution’s contribution by saying that LDC stood as a classic example for excellence and empowerment of women through higher education.
“This is my second visit to Lady Doak College. I had first visited your college in early 90s when I was doing my M.Phil in American College in the subject of immunology. What was started in the year 1948 in Madurai has grown into a great college that is known all over the country. The Government of Tamil Nadu is committed to strengthen higher education ecosystem,” he said.

Stressing that higher education is not just about getting a degree, Mr.P.Ponniah has said that digital innovation, entrepreneurship, career focus and emotional intelligence are a few key aspects that must be focused upon by the LDC students while pursuing their degree course and he urged the arts and science students to think big for great success.
Dr.R.Beulah Jeyashree, Principal and Secretary of LDC, has said in her introductory remarks that the vision of college founder Katie Wilcox when she started the college in Madurai more than seven decades back was to empower women through education.
“In the last 77 years, this college has been a beacon of knowledge with its steadfast commitment. Today is a momentous occasion to celebrate the vision of our founder,” she said.
The Commissioner of Collegiate Education Mr.P.Ponniah had released a book “Communities as Classrooms: A Guide to Service-Learning in Higher Education” and the student cabinet office-bearers were also installed at today’s ‘Triune Celebration’ which was attended by a massive gathering of students from various departments along with faculty and non-teaching staff.
Dr.S.Arockia Shyamala, Dean of Student Affairs (Aided), had welcomed the gathering while Ms.S.Theraya, Student Cabinet president, had proposed a vote of thanks.
LDC vice-principal Dr.R.Nimma Elizabeth and Chaplain Dr.Priyatharsini Rajendran were among those who were present along with Deans and HoDs while a special video about LDC’s growth as a premier college in India was shown by highlighting the achievements in academics, co-curricular and extra curricular activities by the students from the starting days.
