MADURAI: Southern Railway General Manager Mr.R.N.Singh had today inaugurated a new running room for railway crew which was constructed at a cost of Rs.4.7 crores in Rameswaram railway station in Tamil Nadu which is a famous destination spot for pilgrims, devotees and tourists in India.
This running room will be a rest taking facility for train loco pilots, assistant loco pilots and train managers after their scheduled working hours and when they are away from their home dept, according to a press release from the Madurai Division of Southern Railway here on July 22nd 2026.
Mr.Om Prakash Meena, Divisional Railway Manager-Madurai Division and Mr.N.Balaji, Chief Electrical Loco Engineer were among those officials who were present along with Mr.M.Karthik, Senior Divisional Engineer (coordination construction), Mr.A.R.Surendran, Senior Divisional Electrical Engineer (Operations) and Mr.T.Haribabu, Divisional Engineer (North) besides other railway officers, the railway press release has informed here today.
The railway running room which was inaugurated at Rameswaram railway station today accommodate 34 persons at a time, and there is a separate accommodation available for lady train crew, and the rest room is created as per loco inspectors schedule who come to Rameswaram by different trains.
“Each room has a table, chair, reading lamp, dressing mirror, luggage table etc for a comfortable stay to the loco crew at Rameswaram railway station. There is a kitchen, dining room, recreation facilities, yoga room and an open gym. Allotment of rooms are being made through software equipped running room management system. Food for train crew is being served with 90 per cent subsidy with vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. There is a full time caretaker service to alert and wake up the train crew before one hour of their departure,” the railway press release has said.
