MADURAI: The Vice-Chancellor of Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) at Thiruvarur Prof.Dr.M.Krishnan has said that yoga is an enduring symbol of Indian civilization which has an universal appeal because of its positive influence for people’s health and harmony.

“People should practice this ancient discipline. Regular practice of yoga, pranayama and meditation promotes peace at individual level, strengthens family relationship, fosters harmony among communities and contributes for national and global peace,” he said here today while delivering convocation address at the 16th convocation of Institute of Gandhian Studies and Research which is a constituent institution of the famous Gandhi Memorial Museum in Madurai on June 6th 2026.

The Vice-Chancellor had emphasized that yoga should be introduced to younger generation and it must be practiced across the world by all people irrespective of race, caste, language or religion.

Prof.Dr.M.Krishnan, who was the chief guest for 16th convocation ceremony of the Institute of Gandhian Studies and Research (IGSR) at Gandhi Memorial Museum in Madurai today, had presented degrees to 65 students who had successfully completed diploma / postgraduate diploma in scientific yoga, peace and value education.

Dr.C.Ramesh, Associate Professor and Head of Department of Physical Education, Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) and Dr.A.P.S.Gandhimathi, assistant professor in commerce department at Govt Arts College in Aruppukottai, had offered felicitations.

M.Senthilkumar, treasurer, Gandhi Memorial Museum, had presided over the convocation ceremony while Mr.K.R.Nanda Rao, museum secretary, had briefed about the activities and courses being offered through the Institute of Gandhian Studies and Research.

Dr.R.Devadoss, principal, IGSR, delivered the welcome address and Mr.R.Natarajan, Education Officer, Gandhi Memorial Museum, had proposed a vote of thanks.
