
‘Makkal Kalvi Kootiyakkam’ team met Higher Education Minister Mr.P.Viswanathan in Madurai on May 27th 2026 to brief him about the sad plight of universities in Tamil Nadu.
MADURAI: Voices of save higher education in Tamil Nadu have today urged the new TVK government led by Chief Minister Mr.C.Joseph Vijay to order for a full high-level enquiry by a special committee into the allegations of very huge cash corruption irregularities that took place in appointments of teaching staff in government-aided colleges in the State in the last 10 years including Madurai.
A detailed representation-cum-petition was submitted to the new Minister of Higher Education Mr.P. Viswanathan in Madurai today-May 27th 2026- by senior academicians here who alerted him about some critical issues that must be quickly solved in higher education in Tamil Nadu.
“We met the Higher Education Minister in Madurai today and urged him to form a high-level enquiry committee that should fully probe the manner of appointments of assistant professors and other teaching staff in government-aided colleges in Tamil Nadu in the last 10 years. For every post, the amount of corruption was in lakhs of rupees in govt-aided colleges. So, we want a thorough probe into the full list of appointments of teaching staff in government-aided colleges in Tamil Nadu because it is government money and this corruption will be in hundreds of crores of rupees if all the appointments are probed fully,” the Makkal Kalvi Kootiyakkam has appealed in its representation which was submitted to the Higher Education Minister in Madurai on May 27th 2026.
Prof.R.Murali, State coordinator, Makkal Kalvi Kootiyakkam, has alleged that the total corruption in appointment of assistant professors, teaching staff and in other posts in various government-aided colleges in Tamil Nadu in the last 10 years runs into several thousands of crores of rupees and hence a full investigation was demanded by the new government.
“There should be a real high-level committee to conduct the enquiry in every govt-aided college. We have some details and information about appointments in colleges in aided category. So, it is for the Tamil Nadu government to expose the scandal and bring full details into public glare and how money was taken for each post,” Prof.R.Murali had strongly demanded today and he also made an appeal for sufficient financial support to all State universities and especially the Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) in Madurai which is facing severe financial crisis.
“There is an allegation that aided colleges collected money from candidates who got appointed as teaching staff in govt-aided category. It is a huge corruption scandal that took place in Tamil Nadu in the last 10 years. So, want the Tamil Nadu government to order for a full investigation into the appointments scandal that took place in aided colleges in the last 10 years,” Prof.R.Murali has appealed from Madurai today.
