MADURAI: Lok Sabha MP of Virudhunagar parliament constituency in Tamil Nadu Mr.Manickam Tagore has appealed to the Union Ministry of Railways to introduce an afternoon passenger train service daily from Madurai to Sengottai for the benefit of passengers who are travelling from Madurai to Tenkasi and Sengottai via Virudhunagar and Rajapalayam.

He wrote a letter to Union Minister of Railways Mr.Ashwini Vaishnaw on May 1st 2026 requesting him for introduction of afternoon daily passenger train service from Madurai to Tenkasi and Sengottai via Virudhunagar and Rajapalayam.

“At present, there are no passenger train services operating during the afternoon hours in this important route of Madurai to Sengottai. Passengers are compelled to wait till evening trains and it is a huge inconvenience for students, daily wage earners and others who return after completing their work in Madurai daily. So, I request the Union Railways Minister Mr.Ashwini Vaishnaw to introduce one afternoon passenger train service from Madurai via Virudhunagar and Rajapalayam to Tenkasi and Sengottai,” the Virudhunagar Lok Sabha MP Mr.Manickam Tagore.B has urged in his request letter.

He also pointed out in his letter that currently a morning passenger train departs at around 10 am from Madurai towards Tenkasi and Sengottai via Virudhunagar and Rajapalayam.

“Since there is no train till evening, there is overcrowding in trains in the evening and also forces passengers to depend on expensive private transport options. So, the introduction of daily afternoon passenger train in this route from Madurai to Sengottai will benefit students, workers and families,” the Congress MP from Virudhunagar Lok Sabha Parliament constituency Mr.B.Manickam Tagore has appealed in his letter to Union Railways Minister.
