MADURAI: Racing ahead with its robotic surgery expertise, the Devadoss Hospital in Madurai has now installed its second robotic surgery machine that has advanced features to help the surgeons to perform surgeries with more precision and accuracy.
The general surgical robot which is a ‘Made in India’ machine will enhance surgical accuracy of the hospital’s surgical team in general surgery, cardiology, urology, gynecology and other specialities through its top class medical excellence features, Dr.Sathish Devadoss, vice chairman of Devadoss Hospital, told reporters in Madurai today.
Addressing a press conference on March 10th 2026, he said that the installation of second robotic surgery machine is yet another milestone in the hospital’s journey of medical excellence to introduce advanced technology that will help the patients in Madurai region and in southern Tamil Nadu.
“Already we were successful with our first robotic orthopedic surgery procedures. Now, we have the second robotic surgical system that will be used for general surgery and multiple specialities. From the experience we had already with robotic orthopaedic surgery, we are sure that the second one will also enhance precision, surgical planning and patient outcomes. The Made in India machine is SSI Mantra and it is indigenous,” Dr.Sathish Devadoss has said.
Robotic surgeons Dr.D.Jegadeesh Kumar and Dr.R.Sethu Kannan have explained that the robotic machine will give clear 3D images to the surgeon and it will reach the inaccessible areas in the body to capture the image and thereby assisting the doctor.
“Earlier, we were talking about laparoscopy and the latest trend is robotic machine in surgical medical care. Devadoss Hospital is expanding its expertise in robotic surgery by introducing this second machine for general surgery cases,” Dr.D.Jegadesh Kumar added.
