MADURAI: Tamil Nadu BJP State general secretary Prof.Raama Sreenivasan has declared from Madurai today that Thirupparankundram temple ‘Karthigai Deepam’ issue will be a turning point in the coming 2026 assembly elections in the State as it will surely reflect the anger of Hindus towards the DMK government for making it political and hurting people’s sentiments.

“Even after getting the High Court permission, the lighting of holy and sacred ‘Karthigai Deepam’ was not allowed by the DMK government atop the Thirupparankundram Murugan Temple hill. It is a grave injustice and we will take this issue door-to-door across Tamil Nadu. Definitely it will be a turning point and we will fight,” he told reporters here today-December 16th 2025.

The senior BJP leader had exuded confidence that all anti-DMK parties in Tamil Nadu will join the NDA alliance because their common political enemy is DMK and they want to defeat DMK government in the assembly elections.

“Our State BJP president Mr.Nainar Nagendran is working to bring more parties into the NDA, How it takes shape cannot be said in detail right now. But, our aim is to ensure that every single vote against DMK must be consolidated as a strong alliance in NDA for the coming assembly polls. Who will come and who will not is something we have to wait because alliance is not just about arithmetic alone but also political chemistry,” Prof.Raama Sreenivasan has said speaking to the media at S.S.Colony in Madurai today afternoon.

Responding to a question about actor Vijay’s TVK and the claims that it is gaining popularity, the BJP leader has said that being a popular cinema actor alone is not enough to win in elections.

“What happened to very popular actor Chiranjeevi and his own politcal party in Andhra Pradesh is an example. Only MGR and NTR were highly successful in elections and politics. So, cinema image will not be a factor when it comes to voting by the people,” Prof.Raama Sreenivasan had pointed out.

He spoke to reporters after attending the ‘Kanchi Sri Maha Periyavaa Aradhanai’ special abhishekam organized by Mr.Nellai Balu of ‘Anushathin Anugraham’ who organizes various programs for the devotees of ‘Mahaa Periyavaa’ Sri Chandrasekhara Saraswathi Swamigal of Kanchi Mutt.
