Mahabalipuram and Marina Beach come into spotlight as AMET University in Chennai hosts global maritime assembly from Oct 14th to 18th

CHENNAI: Global maritime experts and shipping policy makers from various countries have started arriving in Chennai to attend the 25th Annual General Assembly of International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU) being hosted by the Academy of Maritime Education and Training (AMET) University from 14th to 18th October 2025.

“The AGA 2025 will be a landmark event hosted by AMET University which was established in the year 1993. AMET contributes to the maritime sector by producing skilled professionals for maritime sector. Experts and representatives of IAMU will deliberate and exchange ideas on the latest trends in maritime education and research,” Dr.G.Thiruvasagam, president, AGA2025, has said.

Important topics are going to be discussed in the annual conference and maritime experts from USA, Japan, Sweden, Spain, Australia and England along with Indian experts and experienced AMET University faculty with focus on the theme ‘Disruptive Technologies and Innovations Towards Sustainable Maritime Practices’.

Technical tours are being arranged for the visiting global maritime sector experts to explore maritime heritage and education in Chennai.

A visit to Mahabalipuram to see the UNESCO world heritage site, visit to Marina Beach here and special visit to Valluvar Kottam in Chennai are also in the program schedule lined up for the delegates besides a study tour to AMET Knowledge Park and Maersk Centre of Excellence etc that are highlights in the sprawling 150-acre green campus of AMET University which is situated at Kanathur on the East Coast Road in Chennai.

Dr.J.Ramachandran, Founder and Chancellor of AMET University and Dr.Rajesh Ramachandran, president, AMET University, will welcome the global delegates at Mamallapuram resort and explain to them during the conference sessions on how India is making very rapid strides in maritime education, logistics and training.
