MADURAI: A top level experts team comprising Mr.T.Archunan, Director (Projects), Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) and Mr.Mani Bharati, Engineer-NHAI, had today jointly inspected the site where the National Highways Authority of India has proposed a few vehicular underpasses for two-wheelers.
“The original metro alignment was planned along the centre line of the National Highway at the Thirumangalam approach. In this regard, the experts inspection team of Mr.T.Archunan from CMRL and engineer Mr.Mani Bharati from NHAI have inspected the site to explore the possibility of integrating metro infrastructure with NHAI’s proposals which may involve raising the metro pillars and stations or shifting the Madurai Metro rail route alignment which will require land acquisition there,” according to a government press release in Madurai today- September 6th 2025, after the inspection.
The Government of Tamil Nadu has proposed the construction of Madurai Metro Rail Project spanning 32 kms with 26 stations to be implemented under the supervision of Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), and this proposal has been forwarded to the Government of India for approval.
Meanwhile, the CMRL is preparing the land and utility plans in coordination with various stakeholders after studying the original Madurai Metro rail alignment. In this inspection in Madurai today, the Director (Projects) of CMRL had stated that discussions with NHAI will continue and a decision will be taken in due course.
