MUTA to participate in all-India strike on July 9th with firm demand for college faculty promotions and other issues

MADURAI: The Madurai Kamaraj, Manonmaniam Sundaranar, Mother Teresa, Alagappa, Tamil Nadu Teachers Education and Anna University Teachers’ Association (MUTA) has announced its full-scale participation in the all-India strike on July 9th 2025 which is being spearheaded by JACTTO-GEO for various non-negotiable demands.

This decision was taken at MUTA general council meeting held in Madurai on June 28th 2025 where a few important resolutions were passed on issues concerning higher education and college teaching staff in the State, Mr.A.T.Senthamarai Kannan, MUTA general secretary, has said in a press statement.

The MUTA general council has passed a resolution demanding immediate implementation of Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) promotions to faculty working in aided colleges and it also demanded restoration of old pension scheme.

Other demands include withdrawal of National Education Policy 2020, enforcing equal pay for equal work in all sectors, strict implementation of 8-hour workday norm and a guarantee of Rs.26,000 monthly minimum wage for unorganised workers.

The general council of MUTA has decided to continue the struggle for getting service promotions to all eligible aided college faculty without delay or discrimination.

It also appreciated the Controller of Examinations of Madurai Kamaraj University here and officials of MKU for their efforts in ensuring prompt publication of examination results in the interest of students for their higher studies.

MUTA president Prof.P.K.Periasamy Raja had presided over the general council meeting and attended by general secretary Mr.A.T.Senthamarai Kannan, treasurer Prof.R.Raja Jeya Sekar, vice-president Prof.V.Umamageswari, joint general secretary Prof.P.Sivagnanam and AIFUCTO national president Prof.M.Nagarajan along with zonal presidents, secretaries and majority of general council members, the press release added.
