MADURAI: The prestigious Anna University campus in Chennai should keep a third eye always open in its administrative functioning because of a shocking piece of information shared by very reliable university sources today that there are some senior level teaching staff who are working as “mediators” in the university’s main campus in Chennai to fix Dean appointments in regional campuses.
According to sources, a mediator from Anna University’s Chennai campus had openly quoted the rate for Dean post as Rs.50 lakhs and asked a senior faculty member in its regional campuses whether he is ready to pay the amount and get the appointment order as Dean of a regional campus.
“A teaching staff was the mediator at that time when a faculty member outside Chennai was asked in December 2021 through a phone call asking him to come to Chennai. The rate mentioned for Dean post of a regional campus in Tamil Nadu (like Coimbatore etc) was Rs.50 lakhs. The then Higher Education Minister and then Vice-Chancellor of Anna University Prof.Velraj were going as per seniority only, but a faculty in Chennai campus of Anna University who has contacts with regional campus staff could easily influence and get his choice appointed as Dean in January 2022. The order which was typed for a particular person based on his eligibility was stopped and it got changed to another name because he refused to pay Rs.50 lakhs,” very reliable varsity sources told ‘Lotus Times’ media from various places over phone today-July 1st 2025 and shared all the information available with them about postings and students’ grievances.
Meanwhile, a few faculty members of Anna University had pointed out that there is a serious issue going on in the university’s regional campus at Coimbatore right now in July 2025 because some students there are complaining that they are being targeted by the present Anna University Coimbatore campus Dean and hence they want to do their project work viva in Chennai campus only.
