MADURAI: Teaching faculty members of Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) here sat on the floor and staged a protest before the varsity Registrar’s chamber today- June 18th 2025-demanding immediate action for their promotions under the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS).
The MKU Faculty Association (MUFA) had called for protest condemning the delay in approval for the promotions to 100 faculty of various departments even though the CAS promotions process was over nearly two years ago.
Dr.C.Muniyandi, MUFA general secretary had lashed out at the MKU authorities for not showing proper interest to take up the CAS promotions issue with State government authorities and officials in the Higher Education Department.
MUFA members raised slogans demanding quick steps for their promotions, May month salary and pension which was not yet disbursed to the pensioners.
“An urgent meeting of MUFA was held online yesterday and decision was taken to hold a protest before the Registrar’s office. There is no response from Syndicate members, Conveners Committee and Finance Committee despite our several representations. The replies being given by the Registrar are contradictory and confusing. We do not know whether our promotion files are sent or not to Chennai officials. We don’t have hopes of getting CAS promotions if this lethargic attitude continues like this. So, we have plans to go to Chennai in a large group and present our grievances to the concerned officials there,” a few MUFA members said today.
The MKU faculty who took part in today’s protest have lamented that their career is getting lost due to the delay in promotions because stage wise and on time promotions must be given from assistant professor to associate professor and from associate professor to professor.
MUFA president Dr.C.Muniyandi has said after more than two hours protest that the next plan of action will be announced soon after meeting the Registrar in-charge and Syndicate members again today evening or tomorrow.
