RBI Governor writes letter to Madurai MP on gold loans issue; Gives assurance to small borrowers

MADURAI: The Governor of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Mr.Sanjay Malhotra had written a letter to Madurai Lok Sabha MP Mr.S.Venkatesan stating that the interest of all the stakeholders including small borrowers will be kept in view while finalising the guidelines for gold loans / jewel loans taken from the banks.

“We have taken note of your suggestions in the May 28th letter with certain suggestions on the draft directions on lending against gold collateral issued by the RBI for public consultation. I may clarify that these are draft directions and shall come into effect only after the final directions are issued. The draft guidelines (for gold loans) have been issued to elicit suggestions. We have received a wide range of feedback on the draft directions. We shall examine all the suggestions keeping in view the interest of all the stakeholders including small borrowers while finalising the guidelines,” the RBI Governor has said in the letter dated June 4th 2025 written to Madurai MP Mr.S.Venkatesan.
