
MADURAI: The birth centenary celebrations of legendary Carnatic musician and guru from Kerala late Shri.Vechoor Hariharasubramonia Iyer (1925-1994) who is revered as ‘Vechoor Sir’ by his followers will commence on June 7th 2025 at Bharat Bhavan-Thycaud in Trivandrum.
He is remembered for his exceptional mentorship and leaving a profound impact in shaping music greats like Dr.K.J.Yesudas and others. As a tribute to Carnatic maestro Vechoor Hariharasubramonia Iyer, the Vechoor Foundation has unveiled its plans for his centenary celebrations at a press meet held in Thiruvananthapuram on June 5th 2025.
Speaking to reporters yesterday, Vechoor Foundation secretary Mr.Anayadi Prasad has said that Vechoor Hariharasubramonia Iyer is a carnatic music legend with enduring legacy and he left an indelible mark with this traditional gamka-rich musical style.
The Carnatic music guru had mentored thousands of students in his music career and several of them became celebrated personalities in the field of music including Dr.K.J.Yesudas, Shri.Thiruvizha Jayasankar, late Shri.Neyyatinkara Vasudevan, Smt.Kottayam Rajammal and Shri.Prince Rama Varma.
Kerala Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Mr.G.R.Anil and Vechoor Foundation president Prof.P.R.Kumara Kerala Varma will participate in the centenary inauguration event on June 7th 2025 along with Mr.V.T.Murali, vice-president of Vechoor Foundation and a large number of carnatic music lovers. There will be a musical evening by Prince Rama Varma who is a cherished disciple of ‘Vechoor Sir’, according to a press release received from the Foundation yesterday.
The Vechoor Foundation will also launch its official website and YouTube channel tomorrow-June 7th 2025-to serve as a gateway for Vechoor Sir’s music to reach a wider audience in India and abroad.
“These digital platforms will be unveiled by Prince Rama Varma and it is our Foundation’s commitment to preserve and promote Vechoor Hariharasubramonia Iyer’s great musical heritage for years to come,” Foundation secretary Mr.Anayadi Prasad has said at the press meet in Trivandrum yesterday. The birth centenary celebrations will culminate on November 11th 2025.
