Rotary Blood Bank comes up at Madras Medical Mission Hospital in Chennai Mogappair as life-saving initiative through blood donation

CHENNAI: A life-saving initiative through blood donation was undertaken through Rotary movement in Chennai by setting up a blood bank at Madras Medical Mission (MMM) in Mogappair in Chennai thanks to the efforts of Rotary Club of Madras T.Nagar.

The ‘MMM-Brijlal Ramnath Dhoot Rotary Blood Bank’ was inaugurated in MMM premises in Chennai on April 2nd 2025 and this is the first blood bank of newly carved Rotary International District 3233 executed under Rotary International District 3233’s Grant Global project which is aimed to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and life-saving support through blood donation efforts, according to a press release here yesterday.

Mr.ISAK Nazar, past Rotary district governor and district counsellor, RI District 3233, was the chief guest while the guests of honour were Mrs.Veena Jhaver, Managing Trustee, Shivpyaribai Brijlal Dhoot Charitable Trust and Mr.S.Mahaveer Bothra, Rotary district governor, RI District 3233.

“Rotary’s commitment is towards humanitarian service and to take up projects that directly impact communities,” Mr.Isak Nazar has said in the inaugural address while Mrs.Veena Jhaver and Mr.S.Mahaveer Bothra have lauded the association between Rotary and medical institutions to endure the Rotary’s motto of ‘Service Above Self’.

The Rotary Club of Madras T.Nagar here played a pivotal role to start a blood bank in MMM in Chennai through a special team including the club president for 2024-25 Mr.Narendra Srisrimal and club secretary Dr.Poornima Karthik along with community service director Mr.Vipin Agarwal.

“There was a special note of gratitude extended to Past District Governor Dr.Nanda Kumar whose generous contribution as Term Gift Donor had significantly helped to make the blood bank possible at MMM. The contribution of Rotary Club of Madras T.Nagar was commended in this healthcare service project,” the press release added.

Among those who were invited for the inaugural event were Dr.Jacob Roy, secretary, Madras Medical Mission Trust, Dr.Christopher Roy, Director, MMM, Dr.Senthil Kumaran, Head of Department (Blood Bank), Dr.Nanda Kumar, term gift donor, Mr.Venugopal, district coordinator and Mr.Ambalavanan, district chairman-Public Image.
