MADURAI: Hannah Joseph Hospital in Madurai has achieved three significant milestones in advanced neurovascular care by providing innovative treatment options to patients who came with complex cerebrovascular conditions.

The Institute of Neuroscience and Department of Neurointerventional Radiology of this hospital had done three landmark procedures recently by using advanced techniques for stroke, cerebral aneurysm and carotid artery stenting, Dr.M.J.Arunkumar, Chairman and Managing Director and chief neurosurgeon, has said in a press release here today-October 28th 2026.

“Our hospital became the first hospital in south India to use a new generation balloon guide catheter for an elderly male patient who had recurrent minor strokes. This balloon guide catheter from Johnson & Johnson MedTech enables flow arrest during stenting and also help in minimizing the risk of embolisation to the brain. The procedure was successfully completed recently and that patient is doing well now after our treatment,” the hospital has said.

RECURRENT HEADACHES:

Dr.S.Vinayagamani, senior consultant and Head of Neuro Interventional Radiology and the medical team of Hannah Joseph Hospital had also treated a technically challenging wide-neck, broad based posterior communicating artery (Pcom) aneurysm for a patient who had recurrent headaches and haemorrhage.

“This patient came to our hospital with complex aneurysm. We used a flow diverter and did endovascular flow diversion to reconstruct the parent artery. This patient is also doing very well now,” the hospital’s press release said.

In the third case, the hospital team successfully performed carotid artery stenting through ulnar artery at the wrist (transulnar access) in a patient with extensive cardiac and neurological comorbidities and a challenging vascular anatomy.

“This highlights the importance of individualised access planning and endovascular expertise to handle complex cases. Our hospital is committed to improve patient outcomes and quality of life,” Dr.S.Vinayagamani, senior consultant and Head of Neurointerventional Radiology, Hannah Joseph Hospital-Madurai, has said.
