‘FIT FEST 2026’ at American College gives food for thought to discover the power of nutrition; Fatima College wins overall trophy

MADURAI: The importance of nutrition and balanced diet were emphasized at ‘FIT FEST 2026’ event organized by the Department of Food Science and Nutrition of The American College in Madurai on September 21st 2026.

About 10 colleges from various places in Tamil Nadu had participated in the inter-collegiate competition ‘FIT FEST 2K’2026’ which was conducted to commemorate National Nutrition Month held under the theme ‘Discover the Power of Nutrition’, according to a press release received from the department here yesterday.

Fatima College from Madurai won the trophy for overall winner while the runner-up trophy was bagged by Mother Teresa Women’s University (Research and Extension Centre) here after the participating teams had an opportunity to explore various aspects of dietary health and nutrition.

Dr.Rajakumari Jeevagan, founder of GMS Foundation and Waalai Foods, who was the chief guest for inaugural session had motivated the students to pursue opportunities as Food-preneurs.

SCOPE IN FOOD INDUSTRY:

“Business often begins with a customer’s rejection of a product. But later on it evolves into a success. Explore entrepreneurship chances and careers in food industry,” Dr.Rajakumari Jeevagan has emphasized in her speech.

Dr.A.Joseph Thatheyus, former PG Head of Department of Microbiology at The American College, was the chief guest for valedictory function and he spoke about innovations in food production which are required for an agrarian country like India, the press release said.

Dr.Poornima Jeyasekaran, assistant professor and PG Head of Department of Food Science, The American College, had stressed in her welcome address about dietary diversity and adequate protein intake for nutrition while assistant professors Dr.S.Priyadharshini and Mrs.C.Nalini spoke about the importance of ‘Fit Fest’ event for food science students.

Mrs.Soumini GP, assistant professor and UG Head of Department of Food Science and Nutrition and Dr.J.Gracia, assistant professor were among those who spoke about nutrition month and students’ participation .
