MADURAI: The Association of University Teachers Tamil Nadu (AUT) and MUTA which is a powerful voice of higher education from Madurai for issues concerned with higher education in the State had thanked Chief Minister Mr.C.Joseph Vijay for his government’s announcement to implement long-pending career advancement benefits for teachers of government-aided colleges.
Office-bearers of AUT-MUTA met Higher Education Minister Mr.P.Viswanathan in person at the secretariat in Chennai on September 2nd 2026 to thank the TVK government led by Chief Minister Mr.Vijay for his support to teachers working in government-aided colleges with the announcement regarding implementation of CAS for teachers who are working in government-aided colleges, according to a press release received from Mr.A.T.Senthamaraikannan, MUTA general secretary, in Madurai yesterday-September 3rd 2026.
“We are happy with the announcement of our Higher Education Minister Mr.P.Viswanathan in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on August 24th 2026 during demand for grants discussion in this assembly session. This announcement is being welcomed with great happiness by AUT and MUTA because it helps the long-standing demand of teachers in government-aided colleges for their career advancement, corresponding salary benefit. Our office-bearers also requested that Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) benefits must be provided in salary benefit,” he said in his press statement issued from Madurai on behalf of college teachers in Tamil Nadu.
DELEGATION MEETS MINISTER:
Among those who met the Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister at Chennai Secretariat on September 2nd 2026 include a delegation comprising AUT president Prof.J.Gandhiraj, MUTA president Prof.P.K.Periasamy Raja, vice-president Prof.V.Umamageswari and MUTA general secretary Prof.A.T.Senthamaraikkan besides joint secretary Prof.N.Shylakumari along with central office-bearers and regional office-bearers of AUT-MUTA, the press release said.
They thanked him for his announcement in the Assembly that following Government Order No.5 which was issued in 2021, the eligible Career Advancement Scheme pay benefits would be granted to teachers who are working in Govt-aided arts and science colleges in their September 2026 month salary and it was already informed to the media by the Minister himself a week ago.
The delegation of AUT-MUTA also expressed their gratitude to the present State Government and higher education minister for their concern towards MKU College in Madurai thanks to Madurai North MLA Mr.A.Kallanai who made a request in the assembly by raising the financial difficulties being faced by this college and the demand from college staff to the Vijay government to takeover MKU College in Madurai and also provid egrant-in-aid to MKU College in Madurai so that it can meet the salary expenditure and pension payments of teachers and office staff, Dr.A.T.Senthamaraikannan had appealed in his press release to TN State government from Madurai on September 3rd 2026.
