MADURAI: Five students of Thiagarajar College at Teppakulam in Madurai have been recognized as ‘Champions of Tamil Nadu’ by the Tamil Nadu government for their outstanding achievements in national para-athletics championships.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr.M.K.Stalin had presented the awards on February 18th 2026 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister and Sports Minister Mr.Udhayanidhi Stalin.
The five student para-athletes of Thiagarajar College from Madurai who received the award are D.Abarna of second year B.A.Tamil with a cash prize of Rs.11,50,000/- for running, shortput and discus throw, A.Anushiya of second year B.A.Tamil with a cash prize of Rs.4.5 lakhs for events 100m, 200m and shotput, D.Ahilendhiran of third year B.A.English with a cash prize of Rs.3.5 lakhs for shotput and javelin throw, A.Karuppaiyah of B.A.Economics second year for Shot Put and K.Sivaraj of first year B.A.Tamil with cash award amount of Rs.1.5 lakhs for long jump.
“This remarkable achievement by our college students reflects the dedication, perseverance and sporting excellence of our students. Their success stands as a testament to the strong sporting culture and continuous encouragement being provided by Thiagarajar College in Madurai for sports talent,” Dr.D.Pandiaraja, Principal, has said in a press release here today- February 19th 2026.
The total cash prize of five students of Thiagarajar College is Rs.24 lakhs under the prestigious ‘Champions of Tamil Nadu’ recognition award of Government of Tamil Nadu and for their great achievment, the college management along with staff and students have congratulated the award recipients for their accomplishments, the principal has said today.
