MADURAI: Democracy is the top talking point in Tamil Nadu right now as on today when the State is celebrating Pongal festival on January 14th 2026 and is gearing up for 2026 Assembly elections in the State.

This time, it is going to be a very tough unprecedented elections in the State as the momentum had geared up for the assembly elections to vote for MLA candidates. If we go by the political talks as on date-January 14th 2026, there will be 26 active political parties in the fray in the coming elections which will take place in April-May 2026 and all of them are active parties in the field who are having a vote share in the field in their respective areas in 234 TN assembly constituencies. And actor Vijay will be the top influencing factor for first time young voters.

The 26 parties are DMK, AIADMK, Congress, BJP, Vijay’s TVK, VCK, DMDK, Vaiko’s MDMK, PMK-Ramadoss, PMK-Anbumani, TMC G.K.Vasan, CPI, CPM, Muslim League, Sarathkumar party, actor Karunaas party, Krishnaswamy party, OPS group, TTV’s party, Sasikala group, John Pandian party, Forward Bloc, Kongunadu party from Coimbatore region, Tamizhaga Vaazhvurimai Katchi, Thamimum Ansari’s party and many more caste representation parties that are giving political voices in the State for the coming assembly elections in Tamil Nadu 2026.

When the draft electoral rolls for Tamil Nadu after SIR (Special Intensive Revision) by the Election Commisison of India was released for the Stage last month, there were 97 lakh voters whose names were deleted from the draft electoral rolls SIR in Tamil Nadu due to various reasons like death, transfers, shifting etc and there will be approximately 5.5 crore voters in the State.

So, the prime question that comes to the mind is how difficult it is going to be this time in the 2026 assembly elections in Tamil Nadu because there are going to be 26 active political parties in the fray on both sides of the alliance- either by DMK-led or by AIADMK-led, but it will be a tough time for every voter due to the influences that will come from every poltical party and more importantly because important parties are demanding for a top say and for share in the next government formation in Tamil Nadu.

If the final alliance formation is not satisfying the party cadres by DMK and AIADMK, then things will become tough on the field and these two top parties in Tamil Nadu must be careful with the ‘bargaining and blackmailing’ parties at the time of seat-sharing talks.
