
MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu Governor’s Awards 2025 under the categories of social service and environmental protection were officially announced today by Lok Bhavan in Chennai.
In Social Service category, the institution winner is Venkatraman Memorial Trust in Chengalpattu district while Green Rameshwaram Trust in Ramanathapuram district was chosen for the Environmental Protection Award, according to a press release received from TN Governor’s office ‘Lok Bhavan’ in Chennai today-January 13th 2026.
The awardees will receive their awards from the Tamil Nadu Governor during his ‘At Home’ reception to be given on Republic Day at Lok Bhavan in Chennai on January 26th 2026, the press release added.
Under the ‘social service’ category (institution), Venkatraman Memorial Trust of Chengalpattu district will be awarded a cash prize of Rs.5 lakhs and a citation because this institution is working towards uplifting and upgrading government schools in Kovalam village in that district and enhancing the overall quality of education.
For ‘Social Service’ category of individuals, the awardees are Mr.R.Siva of Chennai district and Mr.P.Vijayakumar of Tiruchi district. This award carries a cash prize of Rs.2 lakhs each and a citation.
While Mr.Siva had dedicated himself for rehabilitation and social reintegration of leprosy affected people, Mr.P.Vijayakumar has been rendering selfless service by performing the final rites for abandoned persons and unclaimed corpses in burial grounds to give them a dignified farewell, and he also established a free library besides providing daily ‘annadhanam’ to the poor and hungry, the Lok Bhavan press releaase from Tamil Nadu Governor’s office has said today.
ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION:
For environment protection category, ‘Green Raneswaram Trust’ in Ramanathapuram district in Tamil Nadu will get the award with a cash prize of Rs.5 lakhs and a citation because this Trust is working to rejuvenate water bodies, flora and fauna of Rameswaram area along with its coastal zone besides promoting renewable energy and environment conservation.
For individual category in environment protection, the Tamil Nadu Governor’s award of Rs.2 lakhs casj prize and a citation goes to Mr.R.Manikandan of Coimbatore district who is the founder of ‘Kovai Kulangal Padhukappu Amaippu’ that is doing its role for protection of water bodies and biodiversity in Coimbatore area.
Nominations for these awards were invited on June 17th 2025 to recognize, felicitate and encourage individuals and institutions for their distinguished services to the society and this yera’s awards marks the fourth consecutive year since thier inception.
