MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association from Madurai has today urged the GST Council authorities to conduct a special meeting soon in Chennai or Madurai with affected stakeholders and trade bodies for discussing GST issues and problems.
Association president Mr.S.V.S.S.Velshankar and honorary advisor Mr.S.P.Jeyapragasam have met GST Council Additional secretary Mr.Pankaj Kumar Singh in New Delhi today-December 18th 2025-and submitted a memorandum by highlighting various suggestions and the issues that need an immediate solution.
“We requested the GST Council to hold an exclusive discussion meeting before the next GST Council meeting and it can be either in Chennai or Madurai. Our request was accepted, and we also asked them to solve the problems faced by those who are dealing with paper products…printing and corrugated box manufacturing. That is for refund of accumulated ITC. And, we have strongly insisted that paper and paper products made out of paper should be uniformly levied only 5 per cent GST,” the association’s press release has said today.
The GST rates on camphor, notebooks paper, food items packaging, wet idly batter, clay bricks etc are some of the points that were mentioned in the memorandum submitted by Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association to the GST Council’s Additional Secretary in New Delhi on December 18th 2025, the press release added.
