Take risk and become like Elon Musk: Ex-ISRO chief exhorts youth at MKU convocation in Madurai

MADURAI: Former Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Dr.K.Sivan has today exhorted fresh graduates to explore the exciting opportunities that are emerging in various sectors and think of becoming entrepreneurs by going for startups.

“Take some risk, start a startup business and become rich like Elon Musk. A robust national innovative ecosystem is being created in India and therefore our youth must make use of the the opportunities, and growth comes only through risk and innovation,” he said while delivering chief guest address at the 57th annual convocation of Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) here today-December 12th 2025.

SPACE SECTOR REFORMS:

Dr.Sivan said that he was a part of the panel that initiated reforms in space sector in the country when he was ISRO Chairman and the results are visible now.

“Due to the Prime Minister’s initiative, the Government of India had implemented space sector reforms and because of that private industries and academia can also participate in space activities, make rockets and launch spacecrafts etc. So, surround yourself with inspiration and think of innovation,” the ex-ISRO chief had motivated the graduates who passed out of MKU.

Tamil Nadu Governor and varsity Chancellor Mr.R.N.Ravi had conferred the degrees to students who completed their courses while the Commissioner of Collegiate Education and Convener of Syndicate Committee Mrs.E.Sundaravalli had presented the convocation report by listing out various activities and accomplishments of MKU.

Totally 62,030 candidates received their degrees in person and in absentia this year while 190 were conferred Ph.D degrees. MKU Registrar in-charge Prof.M.Ramakrishnan and Controller of Examinations Dr.S.Muthiah were among those who were present at the convocation ceremony along with Syndicate members, faculty and administrative staff.
