French teachers’ workshop at American College focuses on new ways to teach French as a foreign language

MADURAI: A one-day pedagogical workshop of French teachers was organised by the Department of French of The American College in Madurai on November 22nd 2025 as a part of the celebration of International Day of French Teachers.

This workshop was conducted in collaboration with the Indian Association of Teachers of French (IATF) and French teachers from Pondicherry, Madurai, Tiruchi, Coimbatore, Theni, Karaikudi, Erode and Pollachi had attended, according to a press release recieved from the college.

Dr.Sumithra Muthukumar, IATF president, held a technial session focusing on innovative classroom games and strategies to enhance teaching French as a Foriegn Language (FLE). The portrait of former French professor M.Minatchysoundirame was unveiled in the presence of his son Mr.M.Mutharasu.

American College Principal Dr.J.Paul Jeyakar had emphasized the importance of language workshops for language teachers in the current shift along with pedagogy, andragogy and heutagogy continuum underlining the importance of self-directed and self-determined learning appraoches, the press release added.

Mr.Chinnadurai Pandian, Head, Department of French at The American College in Madurai and Mr.Victor Packiyaraj were among those who addresed the participants of this workshop while Mr.A.S.Rajapraveen, secretary, IATF-South Zone, had proposed a vote of thanks.

The French Department faculty including professors Angel Sahaya Ajitha, Thangamani, Kavitha and Jegadeswari along with department students had actively taken steps for organizing the workshop, the press release said.
