Madurai gets thrust for electronics companies as 2 Centres of Excellence opened in TCE campus; IT Minister PTR expects great outcomes soon

MADURAI: Electronics manufacturing sector will be a major talking point in Madurai industry circles soon as two dedicated Centres of Excellence for Electronics with focus on design, manufacturing and automation tools were inaugurated in Thiagarajar College of Engineering (TCE) campus here yesterday- October 27th 2025- to give thrust to electronics industry.

Dr.P.T.R.Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, Tamil Nadu Minister for IT and Digital Services, had declared open the Centres of Excellence for Electronics System Design and Manufacturing and Electronic Design and Automation Tools which were set up with the support of ICT Academy- Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and by the college management.

“The total cost of this lab facility is Rs.1.2 crores. We have a vision for this ESDM Centre of Excellence to work in the areas of design, fabrication, testing etc. TCE will be a crucial hub for skill development in electronics,” Dr.L.Ashok Kumar, Principal-TCE, has said at the inaugural function.

After a walkthrough of both the centres, the IT and Digital Services Minister had exuded confidence that there will be great outcomes soon from the ESDM centre and the focus of Tamil Nadu government for the electronics industry is multipronged starting from students training, patens filing, incubation advisory services to startups and funding opportunities through angel investors.

“TCE is an institution of great legacy in Madurai. In these days when global trade got fragmented, we must explore new technologies and encourage local talent. The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister (Mr.M.K.Stalin) has a vision to develop all parts of the State and hence these centres in Madurai are vital for electronics companies,” Dr.Palanivel Thiaga Rajan added.

Mr.K.Hari Thiagarajan, Chairman and Correspondent, TCE has said that the new lab established for electronics field is one of its kind in southern Tamil Nadu and the objective is to increase job opportunities for students through reskilling and upskilling programs because electronics industry is a sunrise sector and it is for job creation through its mindboggling growth.

Mr.Ashwin Desai, Chairman, CII Madurai, Mr.Srikanth V, CEO of ICT Academy-Chennai and Mr.B.Raghava Srinivasan, associate vice-president (strategic partnerships), ICT Academy-Chennai were among the invitees who stressed on the huge manpower requirements for electronics industry along with innovation and R&D facility.
