MADURAI: Popular jewellery chain in south India ‘Lalithaa Jewellers’ appears to be landing in deep trouble as complaints have been made by customers about the huge variation in gold weight for the gold ornaments purchased from Lalithaa Jewellery showrooms.
The issue has come to light at Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh today- October 7th 2025- and a widely followed Telugu news channel ‘Mahaa News’ has today shown a special exclusive coverage to highlight the anguish of customers who had lamented that the weight of the gold purchased by them at Lalithaa Jewellery has come down drastically within just a couple of years of purchase.
The journalists team of Mahaa News Telugu channel had covered this public important issue in a big way today afternoon to get the reactions of Lalithaa Jewellery customers at various places.
“A customer had shown the bill and receipt of how the 46 grams gold bangles purchased by his family had come down to 40 grams now….and this was noticed when they went for exchange to buy new ornaments. The weight variation of six grams is very huge and was taken to the attention of government officials team from the Legal Metrology Department of Government of Andhra Pradesh which takes care of weights and measurements. There is going to be inspections in Lalithaa Jewellery Mart Ltd showrooms as some customers have shown their payment receipts for the gold jewels bought by them with weight details etc. The issue is becoming a hot topic across Andhra Pradesh as the news channel has today asked the affected persons of Lalithaa Jewellery to come forward and give their details,” the ‘Mahaa News’ TV channel has said for its special debate on the issue following the government assurance given today due to public outrage.
