Dr.V.Vasanthi Devi passes away; People’s Watch founder Henri Tiphagne pays rich tributes for her contributions

MADURAI: Renowned academician and a great voice of human rights Dr.V.Vasanthi Devi has passed away in Madurai today-August 1st 2025. According to information received today evening, she breathed her last at her home in Vilachery here at 3.30 pm today.

She was a former Vice-Chancellor of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University in Tirunelveli and was deeply engaged in various movements for cause of education, Dalits and human rights.

Mr.Henri Tiphagne of People’s Watch in Madurai has condoled the passing away of Dr.V.Vasanthi Devi calling her a remarkable woman.

“This is an immense loss to all of us. We remember her as a remarkable person who was deeply engaged in various fields-starting from the teachers’ movement, right to education and human rights education, women’s issues and for the cause of dalits. Dr.Vasanthi Devi is a great soul and her sudden passing away today is a huge loss. She continues to live in our midst, for all of us to engage in the arena of human rights,” Mr.Henri Tiphagne has said in his condolence message.

Teacher’s association MUTA has expressed its anguish and said that her contributions will always be remembered by people from various walks of life.
