
MADURAI: A livelihood skill development training program to empower village women in Ramanathapuram district in Tamil Nadu was started with the support of Karur Vysya Bank as a part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
In the first phase of this programme which commenced at Kanjirangudi village in Thiruppulani in Ramanathapuram district on May 23rd 2025, basic training course in tailoring will be provided for women in that region in association with Madurai-based Voluntary Association for People’s Service (VAPS) which has been carrying out many activities in that district, according to a press release here today.
Mrs.Arulmozhi, Director, Tamil Nadu State Rural Livelihood Mission-Ramanathapuram, who was the chief guest had emphasized the importance of women getting actively engaged in skill development programs and explore the commercial potential of local crafts made from palm leaf products.
Mrs.Thirupurasundari, general manager, District Industries Centre, spoke about entrepreneurship scope for women through business loans from DIC while Mr.Karthikeyan, Lead Bank Manager of Ramanathapuram district, had assured timely support in getting the business loans.
Mr.Kottai Elangovan, Block Development Officer of Thiruppulani, Mrs.Ajitha from Department of Social Welfare, Mr.Satheesh Babu, Regional Manager, Karur Vysya Bank-Madurai region, Mr.Venkatesan, CSR manager of KVB and Mr.Satheesh Kumar, KVB branch manager-Ramanathapuram, were among those motivated the women to proceed confidently to establish their businesses.
Mr.S.A.Arul, secretary, VAPS, gave a detailed presentation about the various empowerment initiatives undertaken by VAPS in Ramanathapuram district, the press release said. Mr.Saravanan, team leader, VAPS, welcomed the gathering while Mr.Ashok Kumar. project coordinator, had proposed a vote of thanks.
