Multilevel car parking to be opened soon at Madurai railway junction; Rly officials give full details of parking charges and covered 4-wheeler parking facility at Madurai railway station

MADURAI: A new multilevel parking facility which was developed at a cost of Rs.6.92 crores at Madurai railway junction here is all set to be opened soon and it will come into use at the western entry of the railway station.

This is the first multilevel covered four-wheeler parking space in the Madurai Division of Southern Railway and this parking facility is a part of the ongoing redevelopment project of Madurai railway junction, a railway press release issued here today-May 23rd 2025- has said.

The parking charges are Rs.30 for up to two hours and Rs.50 for two to six hours. Parking charge for six to 12 hours is Rs.60 and it is Rs.100 for 12 to 24 hours. The parking charge is Rs.100 per day beyond 24 hours. The e-tender process for operating the parking area has already started and this new multilevel car parking facility is designed in such a manner to protect vehicles from Sun, heat and rain.

“This was constructed due to increasing demand for more covered parking at the Madurai railway station. It is a two-floor structure and can accommodate 60 four-wheelers. The car parking space is equipped with CCTV surveillance, lift, restrooms, electric vehicle charging points, digital payment options and fire fighting system which is installed on both the floors for in case of an emergency,” the press release from Southern Railway’s Madurai Division here today has added.

Additionally, another new multilevel car parking is also under construction at Madurai railway junction near the parcel office at the east entry. It will have three floors and space for 166 cars, it will have three entry points on the ground floor, two lifts, restrooms, 13 charging points for electric vehicles and fire fighting system on all the three floors to ensure safety, the press release has informed today.
